Boryana’ belongs to the group of black bamboos (the Latin word nigra
means black), but it has a green culm with brown spots that appear at
the end of the first growing season. The number of spots is dependent on
climate and soil. Completely black parts are sometimes observed. The
shoots develop at end of May or early June.
